Elgin, SC (WLTX) --- Carson Young was seven shots out of the lead when play began Sunday at the 82nd SCGA Amateur Championship.

But thanks to a 5-under 66, Young rallied to win the event Sunday at Woodcreek Farms in Elgin.

The Pendleton native will enroll in Clemson in two weeks and becomes the second straight incoming Tiger freshman to win the state amateur title.

Leader Ben Fogler took a five-shoti lead into the final round, but the rising junior on the Vanderbilt golf team struggled on the back nine and finished with a 4-over par 75.

Former A.C. Flora standout Will Murphy, a member of the USC golf team, shot a 2-under 69 to share runner-up honors with Fogler.
