(CBS) --In an online article released ahead of its October issue,Rolling Stone magazine details new informationabout former New England Patriots star and suspected murderer Aaron Hernandez, including his alleged PCP use, paranoia and involvement with gangsters.
One unnamed friend of his family told the magazine, "Aaron's out of his mind."
Citing unnamed sources, the article says Hernandez was infuriated at his friend Odin Lloyd after Lloyd's cousins allegedly bad-mouthed Hernandez at a Boston nightclub.
Two days later, on June 17, Lloyd's body was discovered about a mile away from Hernandez's home in North Attleborough, Mass.
Hernandez has been charged in his death.
Reports the magazine:
Lloyd saw two of his cousins downstairs. He went to hug them up and buy them drinks when one of them... started pointing and mean-mugging Hernandez. "I don't like that ******, he's one of them funny people," said the cousin... When Lloyd went back upstairs, Hernandez was enraged. Club security cameras allegedly capture the two men squabbling...
Hernandez was also reportedly paranoid that his life was in danger because of his involvement with a group of gangsters. He was worried they were trying to kill him so he carried a gun. Sources also told the magazine Hernandez was addicted to PCP. His coach, Bill Belichick, had reportedly warned him he was close to being cut from the team after missing practices.
The magazine also alleges his coach at the University of Florida may have helped to cover up failed drug tests and two violent incidents - an assault and a shootout outside a local bar.
