Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police are investigating their second shooting at the Colony Apartments--and third overall in the city--within the last 24 hours.
The latest Colony Apartments shooting took place at 5 p.m. Saturday. Columbia police said witnesses told them a group of men got into an argument outside the units. Shots were fired, and one person was hit by a bullet.
The victim was transported to the hospital with what are described as serious but non life-threatening injuries.
Police are interviewing witnesses and following up on leads as they search for suspects.
Officers said they believe the shootings are not random, but they're not sure of the exact motivation yet.
It's the latest event in a rash of violence over the last day. Friday night a man was shot on Martha Street in Columbia, and then around 1 a.m. Saturday, another man was shot and killed at the Colony.
Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin issued a statement on the violence Saturday, saying in part, "The people of this city are fed up and so am I and it is simply not enough to voice our frustration and outrage. We must act. "We must implement gang injunctions in our city. "We must demand that the revolving door for repeat violent offenders be shut. "And we must, as a great community, invest heavily in our youth and programs that help them live up to their God given potential."
