Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Sunday night, the Gamecocks learned they were going to Orlando for the Capital One Bowl on January 1st.
For a lot of fans, that means coordinating a trip to the town to watch the Gamecocks play. With that in mind, News19 is on your side finding out some travel and ticket information for the game.
Right now, USC is only accepting ticket requests from Gamecock Club members and university faculty and staff, and students (Those go for $92 a seat.) The deadline for Gamecock club members to request a ticket is Wednesday at8 p.m. The school says it may put tickets on sale to the public if there's still some available. If you're driving thejust over 800miles roundtrip fromto Orlando from Columbia, you'll be fine on paying for gas--until you cross the border. Right now, gas prices in Georgia are averaging 20 cents more a gallon than they are here, and it's almost 30 cents more once you get to Florida.
For a test, we put in December 31st at a departure date, and January 2nd as a return on Travelocity. What we found were prices ranging from $490 to $550 if you fly out of Columbia, and $370 to $400 if you fly out of Charlotte. Some better deals may be available if you choose to bundle your hotel room with a flight.
The MyCarolina Alumni Association and the Gamecock club are offering travel packages that include two nights stay, shuttle transportation to the stadium, souvenirs, and a pre-game party with food and beverages. One of the hotels being offered is the Renaissance Orland Resort at SeaWorld, which is where the team is staying. The other is the DoubleTree Sea World. Prices start at $439 for the DoubleTree, and $584 for the Renaissance.
