Columbia, SC (WLTX) - South Carolina state trooperssay they ticketedGamecocks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney for going 110 miles an hour on Interstate 77 last Saturday.

The incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 39, which is inFairfield County, about 30 miles north of Columbia.

Troopers sayClowney was driving a Chrysler 300 at a high rate of speed when they pulled him over. The speed limit in that area is 70 miles an hour.

Because of how far over the limit he was, that is a six-point violation. The fine given to Clowney was $355.

Clowney and the Gamecocks are preparing to play Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl on New Year's Day.Clowney, a junior,is expected to declare for the NFL draft after that game.
