Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The Crane Creek Community in Richland County will see a big transformation next year.

Residents in the area wrote hundreds of letters asking for a new park at the intersection of Crane Church and Walter Hills roads. The total project cost is $471,000 and the money is coming from the Neighborhood improvement Program.

District 7 Richland County Councilman Torrey Rush said people have been active in the area and really want to see change.

"They need it,"community member Hainsley Lewis said. "This area has been neglected."

Their voices have been heard and now residents will get to enjoy a new outdoor space.

"To have a new park and be able to get out in the sunlight and enjoy the sun," Lewis said. "It's great."

This is the first project, which is part of a master plan that will update other areas in the Crane Creek community. They plan to finish the park by the end of next year.
