Newberry County, SC (WLTX) - An inmate at the Newberry County Detention center died Saturday due to natural causes.

Charles Butler, 76, from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, was being held on warrants for the murder of his wife, Andreena Butler, 72, in Newberry, South Carolina.

Andreena Bulter was found dead in her home by a friend on December 21, 2013. After an investigation by the Newberry County Sheriff's office and SLED, Newberry County investigators obtained warrants on Charles Butler.

Mr. Butler was arrested by the Chambersburg, Pennsylvania Police Department and extradited back to Newberry County on January 9.

On Saturday, Butler was in a tele-vistiation when he became disoriented. Officers assisted him into a wheelchair, when he became unresponsive. Corrections Officers attempted life saving measures until Newberry County EMS arrived on scene, and determined that Butler had died.

After an autopsy, Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton had determined the death was the result of natural causes by cardiomyopathy.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will conduct an investigation, as it is protocol for in custody deaths.
