Irmo, SC (WLTX) - The Dutch Fork High School wrestling team has been suspended indefinitely as a result of a rash outbreak among athletes on the team.

According to Lexington Richland 5 spokesman Mark Bounds, 17 wrestlers were impacted by rashes on the face and/or skin over the holiday break and over the past few weeks. Athletes sought medical attention outside of school, withseveral receiving differing diagnoses.

The decision to suspend the team was made on Friday, and the principal of Dutch Fork as well as the athletic director met with parents to discuss the suspension.

The school is working with DHEC and continuing to monitor the issue. They have advised the athletes to continue to seek medical attention.

The team will remain suspended until further notice.
