Columbia, SC (WLTX)- Employees at the City of Columbia Public Works Department spent the warm sunny afternoon mounting plows on the front of several city trucks.
Robert Sweatt, Street Division Director with the Public Works Department, says the plan is to always prepare for the worst case scenario.
"It is unusual for Columbia to have snow and ice. The best thing to do is not drive in it if you can help it," said Sweatt.
Street Division crews spent part of Monday afternoon laying down brine, a salt water type mixture, to prepare for the snow and ice.
"We don't have a lot of equipment so it is hard to maintain all of the streets within the city," said Sweatt.
The winter weather preps by the numbers: 100 tons of salt and sand, 8 snow plows, 4 sand spreaders and 2 brine spreaders.
