Columbia,SC (WLTX) - University of South Carolina officials are asking for a tuition timeout.

The request came during the annual "Carolina Day" at the State House, where thealumni, faculty, staff, and students tell lawmakers about the school's impact on the community.

Representativesfrom the school askedlawmakers to give them more money to help them put a tuition time out in place.

Over the past decade, state funding to the university has dwindled to just 10 percent of it's budget, which has caused the school to raise tuition to help make ends meet.USC's student body president says they want to find a way to stop this trend because it is keeping kids from getting an education.
