Saluda, SC (WLTX) --- After a long and eventful recruiting process, Dexter Wideman of Saluda High School made a last-minute decision to sign his National Letter of Intent with the University of South Carolina.

While the Gamecocks were on the star defensive end's radar, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that he would choose Florida State after his visit to Tallahassee. After playing in both the Shrine Bowl and Army All-American Game, rumors spread that South Carolina was gaining ground on Florida State.

Wideman waited until National Signing Day to announce his decision either join the Seminoles or remain home and become a Gamecock. As he stepped to the podium at Saluda High School, Wideman picked up a garnet and black hat while wearing South Carolina gloves. He said his decision came down to the final hour.

"I mean, really I didn't know I was going to be a Gamecock until probably last night," the four-star recruit said. "I just knew last night and when I woke this morning that I was going to be a Gamecock."
