WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley says state officials are reviewing the warranty for the Arthur Ravenel Jr. bridge because it has iced over twice in two weeks.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (
) that Haley said Friday her office also is looking at the materials and working with the Transportation Department.
In winter storms, chunks of ice have fallen on cars, causing authorities to close the bridge. The ice falls from some of the more than 100 cables that are part of the bridge support system.
The bridge reopened Friday. It's been closed a total of four days in the storm.
The Ravenel bridge crosses the Cooper River, connecting downtown Charleston to Mount Pleasant. Average annual daily traffic on the span is 75,500 vehicles.
