Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A restructuring plan announced by the Air Force will cut 92 jobs at McEntire JointNational Guard Base and 93 jobs at Shaw Air Force Base.

"This is huge," said Congressman Joe Wilson, who opposes the cuts. "This is a direct attack on the military. These cuts are coming against our national defense at a time when we are facing rising threats around the world."

The plan means 185 jobs would be cut from bases in the Midlands. The same plan adds 130 positions at the Joint Base Charleston.

The changes would start this year and continue into 2013.

"That's people that we will have to help find jobs because we don't want people to leave the community," said Ike McLeese with the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. "What we're going to try and do is advocate for our local facilities."

"Our county's at risk and its not the time to send a message to our enemies that we're going to be cutting," said Wilson. "I think it's making America weaker at a time of war. This puts America at risk."
