BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- A groundbreaking is scheduled for a chapel and a remembrance wall in South Carolina honoring the veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The ceremony is slated for Wednesday at Palm Key off Interstate 95 near Beaufort.
The chapel and wall are being created with the help of the Independence Fund, a volunteer nonprofit operated by combat veterans.
The fund also sponsors the Lt. Dan Weekend in Beaufort, which features a concert by "CSI: New York" actor Gary Sinise and his band. Sinise played the role of Lt. Dan in "Forrest Gump," parts of which were filmed in the South Carolina Lowcountry almost 20 years ago.
