Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The winter storm is officially gone from the Midlands but it has left behind a mess of snow, sleet, and ice on the roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots.

With temperatures still around freezing this morning, anything that melted last night is now frozen this morning. Be prepared to encounter icy conditions when driving and even walking. Make sure you go slow to avoid a collision or ending up in a ditch.

By this afternoon, the sunshine will be out and temperatures will be back in the mid 50s so more melting will occur and the roads should improve.

Tonight a weak cold front will bring us some rain but temperatures will stay in the upper 30s and above freezing.

This weekend will lead to more melting with plenty of sunshine and highs in the mid and upper 50s. By early next week we're looking forward to a major warm-up with highs back in the 60s Monday and Tuesday and 70s by Midweek!
