Charleston, SC (WLTX) - One of the finalists for the College of Charleston presidency has taken himself out of the running.

The school announced Tuesday that Andrew Card no longer wants to be considered for the position. He'd just been named a finalist a day earlier.

Card, a University of South Carolina graduate, was the White House Chief of Staff under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2006. He also served as U.S. Transportation Secretary for a year under President George H.W. Bush.

The College of Charleston is working to replace P. George Benson, who announced last year he would step down. Benson isset to become a member of the school's faculty at the end of June.

Three candidates for the job remain: Dennis Encarnation, a former member of the faculty at Harvard University; Martha Saunders, the provost at the University of West Florida; and South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Glenn McConnell.
