Austin, TX -- The 21-year-old man accused of driving through a busy SXSW crowd, killing two people, has a criminal past.

Rashad Charjuan Owens, according to his Facebook profile, lists Orangeburg as his hometown, though he attended school in Texas and Florida.

Owens was driving a stolen car from Killeen, Fort Hood officials told KVUE, when the incident took place early Thursday morning.

According to jail records out of Fairbanks, Alaska, Owens was jailed on several charges ranging from DUI and criminal trespassing back in 2011.

Once police formally book Owens into the Travis County Jail, they expect to charge him with capital murder and aggravated assault with a vehicle.

The mayor and police chief of Austin, Texas expressed their condolences Thursday following a fatal crash at the South By Southwest festival. Two people were killed and dozens were injured when a car plowed into a crowd. (March 13)
