Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) -- On Sunday evening a dirt bike traveling east on Vanashee Circle in Orangeburg was rear-ended by a car, killing the rider.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesperson Lcpl. Judd Jones, the unidentified rider on a Kawasaki dirt bike was traveling east on Vanashee Circle at approximately 7PM Sunday, slowed for an unknown reason, and was struck by a 2008 Chrysler also traveling eastbound.

The rider was flown by helicopter to an area hospital, where that person died from injuries sustained in the wreck. The dirt bike rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

Officials continue to investigate the wreck, and will provide additional information upon completion.
