Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Herb Sharpe, longtime leader in the support of the South Carolina Gamecocks, who served as the Gamecock Club's Executive Director from 1996 to 1999, has passed away.
Mr. Sharpe was also Chairman of the Gamecock Club Board of Directors for a five year run, and lead the Lexington County Gamecock Club as chapter President for six years.
Gamecocks Athletics Director Ray Tanner said "Herb Sharpe was a true Gamecock. From serving on the local level as the President of the Lexington Gamecock Club, to Executive Director of the Gamecock Club, he truly made a difference for Gamecocks Athletics. The relationships he made with people will be his legacy," Tanner went on. "He had a talent for working with people and developing friendships. We will certainly have his family in our thoughts and prayers."
Mr. Sharpe is a native of Columbia, earned his Bachelor's in business administration from South Carolina in 1956, spent 29 years with South Carolina Electric & Gas, and retired in 1989 to join the Gamecock Club staff.
