COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Another hearing is planned on a request to remove South Carolina's top prosecutor from the ethics case of House Speaker Bobby Harrell.
State Grand Jury Clerk Jim Parks said Friday that lawyers representing both Harrell and Attorney General Alan Wilson are getting more time to submit briefs in the matter. A hearing will be scheduled later.
In a hearing last month, Harrell's attorneys argued that Wilson tried to intimidate the speaker into supporting certain legislation while state police were investigating Harrell's case.
Wilson says he made no threats and only wanted the bill passed.
The State Grand Jury is considering whether the Charleston Republican should be indicted. The South Carolina Policy Council has accused Harrell of using his office for financial gain.
