Shellie Davis, accused of the 2010 murder of her estranged husband, appeared in court Monday as her murder trial began.
Town of Lexington, SC (WLTX) -- A woman accused of killing of her husband appeared in court Monday as her trial got underway in Lexington County.
Prosecutors say that Shellie Davis shot her estranged husband, Jermaine Davis, in September of 2010.
Jermaine Davis was found with a gunshot wound to the head at a friends apartment in West Columbia. In the days after the discovery of Jermaine Davis' body, investigators say Shellie Davis went to Indian Trail, NC and shot herself in the head.
Davis has been in the custody of law enforcement since then, according to those close to Davis. Monday, she sat mostly quiet while the 12 member jury and two alternates were selected.
Judge Thomas Russo sent the jurors home about midway through the day as the attorney's handled pre-trial motions.
All parties are expected to be back in court Tuesday morning when both sides are expected to make opening statements.
The case is being prosecuted by the Eleventh Circuit Solicitors office.
