Ford is recalling 915,216 Ford Escape & Mercury Mariner SUVs in North America from model years 2008-2011, because of a problem that could cause a loss of power steering.

The NHTSA says 740,878 of the affected models are in the United States… Owners of all affected vehicles will be notified by mail no later than July 25th, and dealerships will perform an assessment & repair.

After dealers read diagnostic computer codes in the affected vehicle, they will either perform a software update on the power steering control module & instrument cluster; perform a replacement of a torque sensor; or replace the entire steering column assembly including the power steering control module software.
