Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A motorcycle wreck on Interstate 20 in Lexington County Thursday morning has taken the life of an Edgefield County man.
South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place around 7:20 a.m.. State troopers tell News 19 that the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved.
The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.
Lexington County Coroner Earl Wells identified the victim as 58-year-old Russell Gerald Johnson of Trenton, SC.
Officers closed all lanes of travel in the eastbound lanes right at exit 58, leading to U.S. Highway 1/Columbia Airport - West Columbia, in Lexington while emergency crews responded.
The Highway Patrol set up a detour, leading traffic off the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 at exit 55 to State Route 6, which caused significant congestion along Two Notch Road/U.S. Highway 1 in that area of Lexington.
All lanes have since reopened.
