KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - The Coast Guard has rescued a man whose vessel began sinking at the entrance to the North Edisto River near Kiawah Island.

Officials say watch standers at the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center learned Saturday of a 31-foot Sea Ray vessel that had run aground and was sinking.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston responded and hoisted the man, who suffered minor injuries. The boat later sank and capsized. Authorities stayed on-scene, monitoring for potential pollution from the fuel on board.

The man was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina.
