Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A Richland County Sheriff's Deputy has been fired after being cited for running a red light on Friday.

State Troopers say Corporal Kenneth Proffitt ran a red light at Two Notch and Trenholm Roads Friday night, colliding with another car. Proffitt was in his department issued vehicle at the time.

Sheriff Leon Lott spoke briefly Wednesday afternoon about the wrecks involving Proffitt. Sheriff Lott apologized for Proffitt's actions, and said the most recent incident was the third time Proffitt has caused an accident since November of 2012.

The Sheriff says Proffitt does not agree that the accident was his fault and believes he had a green light at the time, but Sheriff Lott says surveillance video from a nearby business shows Proffitt running the light.
