ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - An Anderson County sheriff's deputy is on leave after shooting and wounding a man who threatened him with a knife.
Sheriff John Skipper told local media outlets that the officer went to a home Monday afternoon to investigate a reported theft.
When the deputy returned to the home later in the day to get more information, Skipper says a resident approached him with a knife and refused to put it down. Skipper says the officer fired when the man refused to stop approaching.
The sheriff says the man was sent to a hospital. His name has not been released, and there was no word on his condition.
The deputy's name has not been released. As is standard, he has been placed on leave while state police investigate.
