Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) - Orangeburg Public Safety officers have arrested a man they say put a toddler's feet in scalding hot water.
Deron Antonio Robinson, of Cameron, is charged with abuse to inflict great bodily injury upon a child.
An incident report states that back on July 12th, doctors at The Regional Medical Centerof Orangeburg saw a17-month-old boy come in who had third to second degree burns on his feet and ankles. The doctor told police that Robinson (the boyfriend of the child's mother) told them the victim put his hand on a pot of boiling water and knocked it over, causing hot water to splash on the child's feet.
However, the doctor concluded there was no splash; instead, the physician said because theburns were even,it appeared the child's feet were dunked in hot water up to his ankles.
The boy was taken to the Augusta Burn Center for further treatment. An arrest warrant states that doctors say the boy will require skin grafts.
Investigators determined that Robinson was caring for the child at the time of the incident.
It's not the first time Robinson has been accused of neglecting children. In 2010, he pleaded guilty to abuse to inflict great bodily injury upon a child. An incident report says Robinson's son was under his care, and came to the hospital with bruises, a bloated abdomen, and a lacerated liver.
For the incident involving the boiling water, Robinson remains behindbars at the Orangeburg Detention Center on a$100,000 bond.
