LEXINGTON, SC (WLTX) -- Lexington police say a 17-year-old Dutch Fork High School student was stabbed to death late Monday night following a basketball game.
Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green identified the victim as Davon Capers.
The killing took place outside the Cookout restaurant on West Main Street. Green says the incident grew out of a fight that appears to have stemmed from a disagreement following the Lexington-Dutch Fork basketball game.
Capers was taken to the hospital where he died.
The State Law Enforcement Division also responded to the scene. There's no word yet if police have any suspects in the case.
Capers was a senior at Dutch Fork and played on the football team. Early Tuesday morning, the Dutch Fork High Twitter account send out a message that read, "our thoughts and prayers go out to Davon Capers' family & friends. He was loved by so many."
Dutch Fork High followed up with a message of their own, saying, "DFHS is saddened by [the] loss of one of our own students, Davon Capers. Hoping for peace & comfort for his family, friends, & school community."
Dutch Fork's boy's basketball team released this statement via Twitter, "Goes without saying that we are saddened beyond belief tonight at the passing of Davon Capers. Thoughts and prayers to everyone close to him."
