Springdale, SC (WLTX) - Springdale police have arrested 12 people in a prostitution sting.

Springdale Police Chief Kevin Cornett says his office had received tips about prostitution taking place within the town limits. To crack down on the crime, officers launched what they called Operation Aphrodite on Friday and Saturday and used the backpage.com website to find suspects.

The suspects--all men---were charged with soliciting prostitution. They ranged in age from 18 to 54.

Cornett says internet-based prostitution can be used to further human trafficking.
