Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Kershaw County deputies say a man is facing charges after shooting a man who'd been trespassing on a hunting property.

James Andrew Davis, 46, of Greenville is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Officers say early in the morning on August 2nd, the victim and two other people were driving a pickup on property on Cemetery Road that was leased by Davis for a hunt club. Officers say when Davis saw the men, he fired several rounds from a .270 rifle into the air to scare them off. As the truck was leaving the property, though, deputies say Davis fired more shots, one of which went through the tailgate, the front of the bed, and hit the victim in the cab.

The other passengers in the truck took the victim to a house, where the homeowner took the man to the hospital. The victim was treated and released.

Davis was released on $15,000 bond.
