Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police are searching for suspects who they say used the promise of a cell phone sale to rob a victim.
Officers say back in May, the victim responded to an online ad from someone who said he wanted to sell a cell phone. The two arranged to meet at a location on Forest Drive.
However, officers say when the victim arrived, he saw three men waiting for him inside a car. As he entered the vehicle, at least one of the suspects pointed a gun at him. The suspects then drove the victim to an ATM on Forest Drive where they demanded he give them his pin number so they could withdraw money from his account. When he refused, officers say they beat him.
The victim then gave the men the pin number, and they began withdrawing the money. When they were done, the dropped him off at a nearby location.
The suspects face several charges including armed robbery, kidnapping, assault and financial transaction fraud.
Officers have released a surveillance photo of one of the suspects using the victim's credit card at an ATM.
