Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The SEC Network launches later this year, and ESPN has turned to the University of South Carolina for help with marketing the new cable network.
ESPN asked Darla Moore School of Business marketing professor Mark Newsome to get his graduate students to help craft digital and social media strategies.
Four teams of students practiced their presentations on Friday. Saturday, the groups will present their strategies to ESPN executives in hopes their ideas will be used for the new channel.
Newsome says his class gives graduate students real-world experience in the marketing world. "The idea was that we would use actual clients from the center of marketing solutions and we would give the students an opportunity to develop real marketing plans for a real client, but also in a real world timeline."
This is the second time Newsome's class has worked with ESPN. One of his graduate classes last summer worked on early marketing strategies for the SEC Network.
Newsome also told News that ESPN has chosen marketing strategies by USC students in the past.
