11 candidates have filed to run to replace Mick Zais as the state's top educator

(WLTX) - Sumter County educators asked the tough questions to seven state superintendent candidates during a forum Thursday.

Teachers gathered at Alice Drive Middle School in Sumter to get up close and personal with the candidates. The questions ranged from what qualifies them for the position to whether they support Common Core.

So far, 11 people have filed for candidacy:

- Sally Atwater

- Montrio Belton

- Gary Burgess

- Meka Childs

- Amy Cofield

- Sheri Few

- Sheila Gallagher

- Don Jordan

- Elizabeth Moffly

- Ed Murray

- Molly Spearman

Atwater, Cofield, Gallagher and Murray were not present at the forum.
