Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) -- Claflin University awarded degrees to the largest class in the institution's history during its Commencement Convocation on Saturday.

Some 423 students, earning either bachelor's or masters degrees, walked across the stage of the Seventh-day Adventist Worship and Convention Center in Orangeburg for Claflin's 144th graduation ceremony.

The ceremony's guest speaker was Dr. Charles Ogletree, from Harvard Law School, who urged graduates to remember those who came before them and helped lay the foundation of the road they have traveled.

Claflin, a historically black university, was founded in 1869.
