May 29, 2014 marks one year since Zion Carroway lost his father to cancer. He wanted to use today, to recognize the teachers that have been instrumental in helping him succeed as a high school freshman.
Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Zion Carroway is a three sport student athlete at Brookland-Cayce High School, and is an outstanding student in the classroom and admired by his teachers. But, what many people don't know about Zion, is that one year ago on May 29, 2013 he lost his father.
At that time, his foundation was shaken, his faith was tested and he felt like giving up.
His mother did everything she could to heal, but as Zion was preparing to enter 9th grade she knew he would need more than just her support and prayers.
Six teachers, somehow came together to answer her prayers as they became the support system Zion needed to get through the school day.
He has a 100 average in one of his classes, and his honors English teacher describes him as one of the best students she's taught in 13 years.
Zion's ultimate goal, is to fulfill the promises he made to his father and with the help of his educators, coaches and mother it is a goal many believe he will reach.
