Daylight Saving Time means one hour less of sleep. Here are some tips on how to ease yourself into the transition.
Columbia, SC (WLTX)- More sunlight to enjoy after work but one hour less of sleep.
Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend. 'Springing forward' one hour can cause similar effects to jet lag. Dr. Francis Dayrit from Lexington Medical Center says a good way to transition your body is to reset your inner time clock.
"Get exposed to bright light by 7 or 8 in the morning. Get out in the sun in the morning because that will reset your time clock," said Dr. Dayrit.
Putting kids to bed when it is still light outside can be a challenge, and getting them to fall asleep without electronics may be an even bigger challenge.
"A computer screen and an IPAD screen is strong enough to stimulate your brain to say 'oh, it's daytime'," said Dr. Dayrit.
He says sleep is a necessity and people need to take that seriously because it impacts your overall health.
"The best thing to do is get the sleep when you need it and not have to pay for it later on."
Clocks will officially change at 2:00 AM Sunday morning. At home, move your clock an hour forward to have the correct time.
