Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Tuesday afternoon city officials were notified that Charles Rapp withdrew from the Columbia Police Chief finalists list.

Last week City Manager Teresa Wilson announced the five finalists for the chief position. The finalists are Tony Fisher who is the former Spartanburg public safety chief, William Holbrook who is currently a police chief in West Virginia, Gregory Reese who is Chief of Security forces for the Air Force space command in Colorado, Bryan Norwood - who is the former Chief of Police for Richmond, Virginia and Charles Rapp serves as the Executive Director for the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions.

Four of the candidates made the trip to Columbia Tuesday and spent the day with the leadership team at the Columbia Police Department before starting their interview process tomorrow. Charles Rapp did not make the trip because of medical reasons.

Just after 5PM on Tuesday city officials received an email from Rapp saying:

"It is with deep regret that I must withdrawal from the process. I experienced a medical emergency yesterday and remain under evaluation. I have not been cleared for travel. I am extremely disappointed but I have to resolve this issue before anything else. Good luck on the process it seems that you have some very strong candidates."

The finalists will spend Wednesday spending time with city stakeholders, meeting council members and taking part in a public forum.
