Hefner's comments come hours after a Dutch Fork High student was stabbed to death outside a restaurant.


Irmo, SC (WLTX) - The superintendent of Lexington-Richland School District Five has released a statement on the death of a student.

DaVon Capers, 17, was stabbed Monday night outside the Cookout restaurant on West Main Street in Lexington. He later died at the hospital.

Capers was a member of the football team at Dutch Fork.

Superintentent Stephen Hefner released the following comment Tuesday morning.

"The entire District Five family is saddened to learn of the death of one of its students. DaVon Nathaniel-Capers was a senior at Dutch Fork High School and a member of the football team.

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to the student's family as law enforcement officials continue their investigation into his untimely death. Plans are underway to have grief counselors available for students and staff needing assistance as we all come to terms with this tragedy."

Students at the school held a moment of silence for Capers Tuesday morning.
