Orangeburg County, SC (WLTX) - The body of a missing Orangeburg teenager was found Friday.

The family of 17-year-old Kymmara Randolph was the first to confirm to News19 that the girl's remains had been recovered. Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers later revealed that the girl was found in a creek near the Calhoun/Orangeburg County border Friday afternoon.

Randolph was last seen alive on February 13th.

Two men have been arrested and charged with murder in the case: 28-year-old Bryant McKnight and his brother, 45-year-old Jerry McKnight. Other suspects are facing accessory after the fact charges.

At a Friday night news conference, Summers said the crime was a case of mistaken retaliation. According to investigators, the home of a relative of the McKnights had been the target of a home invasion earlier this month. The men incorrectly believed that Randolph had some involvement in the crime, and came up with a plan to punish her.

Deputies say the men were able to lure Randolph from her house in Orangeburg on the pretense that she was going to a party with them. Apparently, Randolph and Bryant McKnight shared a mutual acquaintance.

"This was not a kidnapping," Summers said. "She went willingly."

About seven to eight hours later, the two lead suspects shot and killed her, Summers said.

News19's spoke to the victim's grandmother Friday, who said the teen was loved by everyone and had a very outgoing personality.

"I'm not saying this because I am her grandmother, but she is a bright young child," said Jean McDaniel.

Kymmara had been staying just up the street from her mom and grandma in the Eastwood neighborhood in Orangeburg. Her roommate called Kymmara's mom concerned that she hadn't seen her for several days. This prompted her mom to file a missing person's report Sunday and Calhoun County Deputies began their search.

"We printed fliers and even went out to St. Matthews to see if anyone had seen her," said McDaniel.

The investigation is continuing, and the sheriff said other arrests could come in this case.
