Calhoun County, SC (WLTX) - The body of a missing Orangeburg teenager was found Friday and the sheriff says her murder was the result of retaliation from a robbery.
Kymmara Randolph,17, was last seen alive back on February 13th when she left her home. Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers says the teenager left under the notion that she was attending a party, she was later found shot and killed and Summers says it was out of retaliation from a home robbery.
"The McKnight's mothers house was invaded a week ago by masked men that came to rob them and made threats to their mother. These people for some reason thought that Kymmara had something to do with it and they pretty much planned to do harm to this girl," said Summers.
Randolph's body was found in a swamp area near the Orangeburg and Calhoun County line.
Deputies arrested and charged 28-year-old Bryant McKnight and 45- year-old Jerry McKnight with murder.
Jonathan McKnight, 20, was also charged with accessory after the fact of murder.
"This case is complex, there is still an active investigation, it is still ongoing. We still have numerous people of interest that we need to talk to and interview and their will possibly be more arrests."
Sheriff Summers compared the search for Randolph to looking for a needle in a haystack.
His department worked along with SLED and other law enforcement agencies before finding her body.
"This creek is a relatively big creek and deep and there was no way that we could do it from land visually so we needed divers to go into the water."
Summers says she was shot to death but deputies have not recovered the weapon.
He says Bryant McKnight and Randolph had a mutual friend.
"There was no kidnapping, she was more or less invited to come over and party with them and that was the pretense that they came over there and got her. She came over willingly she thought she was going to party with them."
Sheriff Summers says they also arrested 53-year-old Sandra Hughes of Barnwell county; she is charged with obstructing justice and 28-year-old Derek Sumter of Orangeburg who is charged with accessory after the fact of murder.
The investigation continues.
