Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The chair of the Richland County Elections Commission Board will not seek a new term.

A letter sent Thursday by the Richland County Legislation Delegation announced that the county was accepting applications for Allen Dowdy's position

Rep. Joe Neal, the chair of the delegation, told News19 that Downy's current term is up in mid-March, and he does not wish to seek reappointment.

This had been a very active week for the board, as they fired Howard Jackson as the county's elections director Monday. The next day, Jackson made multiple claims against the board, saying they gave him "unlawful orders."

Wednesday, they selected Samuel Selph, who had been a member of the board, to succeed Jackson on an interim basis. Previous Coverage: Board Selects Selph as Interim Director | Fired Elections Director Blasts Board

Dowdy had chaired both those meetings, and in public comments, had made no indication that he was leaving.
