One of the surviving members of the Tuskegee Airman has died at the age of 92.
Sumter, SC (WLTX) - One of the last surviving members of the Tuskegee Airman has died at the age of 92.
Leroy Bowman of Sumter passed away Wednesday of natural causes.
Bowman served in WWII as a Tuskegee Airman; they were the first group of African-American pilots who fought in war.
The movie, Red Tails, was a portrayal of his company. WLTX sat down with him two years ago and got his perspective about that movie.
He was raised in Sumter and moved back in the 1980's.
His funeral is set for Saturday at 3PM at the First Baptist church in Sumter.
Leroy Bowman was 92 years old.
