Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The University of South Carolina's Dance Marathon spent the weekend dancing to raise money and awareness for sick children.

The group raised $318,649 in its 24 hour no-sitting, no-sleeping event. The amount topped last year's total by more than $94,000.

The money will go to Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, a Children's Miracle Network hospital.

More than 1,000 students participated in the event that ended at noon on Sunday.

Over the last 15 years, the organization has raised nearly $2 million.
