COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - State lawmakers are scheduled to get an update on South Carolina State University's $13 million cash flow problem.
The Budget and Control Board Is to be briefed Wednesday on the school's financial woes. The state's only public historically black university has asked legislators for help covering bills and loan payments coming due before the fiscal year ends.
House Ways and Means Chairman Brian White said last month the state has an obligation to the university's roughly 3,400 students to address the issue. He is one of the budget board's five members. How they will address the problem is undecided.
White's comments came after budget officials received the university's deficit recovery plan.
Budget board employees have been meeting with university officials.
