Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police say a crash that killed two people along the Blossom Street bridge may have been deliberate.

Denzel E. Whyatt, 35, and Shannon Mickens, 40, died January 16th when the SUV they were in plunged off the bridge into the Congaree River below. Whyatt was driving the vehicle. Rescuers were able to pull Mickens out of the river, but she died at the hospital. Whyatt's body was found inside the vehicle.

Investigators have said Whyatt was the driver.

Police say based on the results of their investigation, they believe the crash likely wasn't an accident; however, they say they cannon determine which occupant contributed to the collision.

Coroner Gary Watts said Wednesday that Whyatt had a blood alcohol level of .127 at the time of the crash, while Mickens had no alcohol in her system. The legal limit for driving is .08. Watts' report also found traces of marijuana in both of their bodies.
