Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police have captured an inmate who escaped from police headquarters earlier in the day.

Officers found 25-year-old Justin Kyle Jenkins at Elmwood Cemetery just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

According to police, Jenkins was handcuffed to a desk in an interview room that was locked at Columbia Police Headquarters. Jenkins was left unattended, officers say, and when the investigators returned, he was gone.

Police say it appears Jenkins may have tampered with the door lock to escape from the building.

Jenkins was being held at the Richland County Jail on larceny and shoplifting charges.
