Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Sources tell News19 that William Holbrook will be named the new Columbia Police Chief Friday.
The sources confirmed the news Thursday afternoon. Holbrook is the police chief of Huntington, West Virginia.
Later in the day, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams announced in a statement that he had received a letter of resignation from Holbrook, and that the resignation would take effect April 7th.
Columbia city officials have scheduled an introduction ceremony for 9 a.m. at Columbia Police Headquarters. City leaders including Mayor Steve Benjamin, City Manager Teresa Wilson, and the city council will be at the announcement.
The final decision on who to hire was made by Wilson.
Columbia has been without a permanent police chief since Randy Scott resigned last April. Ruben Santiago had been serving as interim chief, but resigned last week. Melron Kelly has been the acting chief since then.
