Blythewood, SC (WLTX) - A Blythewood plastics company is laying off 40 employees.

Amcor Rigid Plastics confirmed the employees will be let go immediately.

Amcor Rigid Director of Communications Shelley Steele says one of their top customers in the region closed, which meant there wasn't as much consumption of their products.

Employees are being offered severance packages.

Amcor's plastics are used in containers for sodas, juices, and sports drinks. The company opened in Blythewood in 1999, and had 150 employees prior to the layoffs.
