Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - The 2014 Kershaw County Special Olympics kicked off Friday morning with hundreds of special olympians and community volunteers.
The purpose of the event is to provide Olympic-type sports training and competitions for persons eight years of age and older with intellectual disabilities.
The athletes competed in a variety of different activities from football, basketball and soccer clinics to the much anticipated "dance off."
Members of the Kershaw County Special Olympics committee work year round to make sure the event is successful for the athletes and their parents.
This is the seventh year the Camden Military Academy has hosted the Kershaw County Special Olympics.
Camden Military Academy Headmaster Colonel Eric Bolan said, "The Special Olympics provides our cadets another opportunity to give back to the community as well as form bonds with these Special Olympians."
