Lexington County, SC (WLTX) -- A Lexington County gun manufacturer says it plans to expand, creating 300 more jobs.

"Palmetto State Armory is a South Carolina owned and operated business, we've been here since the beginning, six years ago it started in the CEO Jamie McCallum's garage and it was natural if we were going to grow the success we have felt so far has been with the support of South Carolina and the residents," said Adam Ruonala.

Ruonala is the chief marketing officer at Palmetto State Armory, he says the expansion of the Lexington County gun manufacturer will lead to more jobs here in the Midlands.

Ruonala said, "It is everything from manufacturing to packaging to management to things on the press level and marketing, as we grow we want to be able to provide all of these jobs to South Carolinians."

Palmetto State Armory announced Thursday it will make a $4.2 million dollar investment to add extra space and renovate their facility on Old Dunbar Road.

"We are going from 40,000 square feet to 168,000 square feet, it seems to us that the possibilities are endless, so we are anticipating a ramp up in production which means more product available to the consumer and obviously more hours and more jobs for the community," said Ruonala.

The upgrades are being done so the company can increase its manufacturing capacity over the next three years.

The company considered other locations across the southeast for its manufacturing center, but ended up staying in the Palmetto State, is good for both the company and the Midlands.

"We feel blessed to be able give back to the community in this way, obviously it benefits us, but the fact that we are able to do this with the people who supported us since the beginning is truly something we don't take for granted," said Ruonala.

Palmetto State Armory currently employs 230 workers, by the completion of the expansion project they expect to have more than 500 workers with the company.

Interested applicants should email their resumes to Palmetto State Armory's Human Resource Director Kim Miranda at Kim.Miranda@palmettostatearmory.com.
